Other companies may say they do work for nonprofits. They may even say that is 100% of their target market. However, the main beneficiaries of their model are shareholders and investors. Their fees often reflect the profit motive.
The Tessitura Network is a nonprofit, member-owned, member-governed company that was created to provide needed products and services for the members in a truly cooperative, innovative and beneficial manner. The Network charges fair and typically below-market rates and provides a number of services at no charge. If the Network runs a surplus, the beneficiaries are the member organizations themselves.
The Tessitura Network corporate charter and bylaws stipulates that the company is organized and shall be operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes. It also indicates that the Corporation is controlled by and is organized and shall be operated for the benefit of and to support the voting members of the Corporation, which are performing arts and visual arts and educational organizations operated for the inspiration, learning and benefit of the public (“Stated Cultural Purposes”). The Corporation shall support and benefit its members by, among other things, supporting, enhancing and improving the Tessitura™ arts organization enterprise software … in order to enhance the ability of its members to further the Stated Cultural Purposes. The Network membership agreement also indicates that the company will facilitate the sharing of ideas, business practices and information within the Tessitura Network community of users.
These purposes guide our structure, inspire our team and direct our operations to stay focused and purposeful. It also creates an environment within which team members thrive and funding opportunities exist to support these cultural purposes for arts and cultural organizations on a global scale.
