Tessitura’s Innovator Series is an ongoing program of brief and inspiring presentations by industry innovators, each focused on a single theme to advance insight and innovation in the business of arts and culture. Presented periodically at no cost to a live webinar audience of Tessitura Network Members and others engaged in or studying the arts and cultural sector, Innovator Series presentations are subsequently released through the Tessitura Network YouTube™ channel to expand and extend the accessibility of these powerfully innovative ideas globally.

Launching LiveNote™: Putting a Mobile App in the Hands of Audiences
The Philadelphia Orchestra and Drexel University shared a vision to provide audiences with musical and historical context about the repertoire being performed by the Orchestra in Philadelphia’s Verizon Hall. In 2011, the two organizations joined forces and secured a grant from the Knight Foundation to build an interactive concert guide that audiences would view on their mobile devices while the Orchestra played on stage. Fast forward to 2015 and the culmination of this vision is the LiveNote app. In his talk, Ezra will discuss LiveNote content and application development, infrastructure considerations and audience reaction.

Moving the Needle from Cultural Policy to Cultural Engagement
In 2012, Chicago Shakespeare Theater launched Chicago Shakespeare in the Parks, which tours a professional production – free for all – to culturally underserved neighborhoods across Chicago. The program was inspired by a Cultural Mapping Project conducted by the University of Chicago and the City of Chicago's Cultural Plan. Catalyzed by the reality that large portions of greater Chicago showed low participation in the arts, Chicago Shakespeare challenged itself, and its supporters and partners, to engage with these neighborhoods in a bold and creative new way. Brooke will discuss the development, launch and success of this important Chicago Shakespeare civic engagement initiative.

The Disease of Being Busy and How It Affects Us

In this day and age, too many of us seem to suffer from a common ailment – the disease of being busy. Without even thinking, we answer the question, “How are you?” with “I’m so busy.” How did we create a world in which we have more and more to do, but thus, less time for leisure, reflection, community and to just be? Lisa will reflect on what this currently incurable disease of being busy means for us  - as arts and cultural professionals with important work to do, and as we attempt to capture the attention of, and build engagement with, the general public for our institutions.

Ezra Wisener
Ezra is the Managing Director of IT for the Philadelphia Orchestra and Kimmel Center’s IT Services department. This department is a shared services organization that supports the information technology needs of the Orchestra, the Kimmel Center, Ticket Philadelphia, Opera Philadelphia, the Curtis Institute of Music and the Pennsylvania Ballet.  Ezra is a graduate of Drexel University.

E. Brooke Flanagan
As Director of Institutional Advancement, Brooke leads Chicago Shakespeare's fundraising programs and serves as a strategic partner to the Board of Directors, Artistic and Executive Directors. Prior to joining CST, Brooke spent seven seasons at Steppenwolf. Prior to this, she held positions at Ravinia Festival, League of Chicago Theatres and Santa Fe Opera. She is a board member of Arts Alliance of Illinois and a former board member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Chicago Chapter.  She serves as a featured panelist at national conferences and workshops, co-chaired the AFP Chicago Conference (2006, 2007) and co-chaired the National Alliance for Musical Theatre Spring Conference (2013). She holds her BFA in Theatre from the College of Santa Fe.

Lisa Middleton
Lisa Middleton, Director of Marketing at Lyric Opera of Chicago, is a non-profit marketing executive with more than 20 years of experience in all aspects of marketing and development. She manages pricing, revenue management, direct marketing, advertising, communications and PR, social and digital media for Lyric. Lisa loves data analytics and statistics, and uses information gleaned from analysis to guide the development of strategic directions for database segmentation, pricing analysis and model building all with an eye to maximize revenue and increase patron engagement. Lisa previously held roles in marketing and development at the Stratford Festival of Canada, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Sunnybrook Hospital, the Kidney Foundation and the Canadian Diabetes Association. Lisa holds a BSc from York University in Toronto, Canada.
