Filling Every Seat: Discounts and Building Audiences
Using discounts to strategically build audiences is less about fillings seats for one night and more about using discounts to establish a long-term audience base. Seattle Rep has piloted several programs with this goal in mind, including programs targeting first-time patrons, using discounting websites such as Living Social and Groupon, and utilizing internal discount tracking data. Katie will discuss results and share insights about retaining audience members for whom price point might be an object.

A Commitment to Accessibility
Consider how you can help your organization remove barriers, provide opportunities and deliver great guest service to everyone regardless of ability. According to the 2010 US Census, approximately 19% of the population has a disability, and combined, people with disabilities represent more than $200 billion in discretionary spending. Wouldn’t an institutional commitment to accessibility represent an opportunity to invite engagement with more people in your community? Such a commitment doesn’t need a team of experts. In this talk, Nicole will share insight and ideas from her work with the Adrienne Arsht Center as well as from her experience as a founding member of Florida Access Coalition for the Arts.

Redefining Digital Access: The #DSOLive Story
In 2010, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra adopted an audacious challenge from its board’s Technology Task Force – to become the most accessible orchestra on the planet. Its groundbreaking Live from Orchestra Hall webcast series, as well as other digital initiatives, have reinvigorated the institution and have brought acclaim from the New York Times, NPR and other national news outlets, as well as international attention. In this talk, Scott will discuss how the DSO is using digital media to strengthen current relationships and to create new audiences. He’ll share success stories, as well as thoughts on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

Katie joined the Seattle Rep in June 2008 and is responsible for overall leadership and management of the marketing, sales, communications and audience service functions of the organization. She brings 15 years of experience marketing non-profit and commercial theater for organizations including Hennepin Theatre Trust and Clear Channel Entertainment. She also worked in Marketing Planning for Target Corporation where she executed marketing initiatives and co-partnerships. Katie began her career at the Portland Opera, after earning a B.A. in Humanities from the University of Oregon. She also holds a Management Certificate from the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota.

A ticketing professional with over 18 years of experience with both for-profit and not-for profit arts organizations, Nicole’s previous positions include Regional Sales Operations Manager, Southeast at Broadway Across America and Marketing Associate at Florida Stage. She has been working for Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County since June 2007 and currently holds the position of Senior Director, Ticket Services. Nicole is one of the founding members of Florida Access Coalition for the Arts.

Scott is currently Executive Director of Board Engagement & Strategy, as well as Executive Producer of Digital Media, at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. As the DSO’s chief engagement officer in pursuit of a fully activated and deployed governance structure, he works with board leadership, musicians, and staff to fulfill DSO strategic objectives, as well as leads the organization’s commitment to digital access through a variety of electronic media projects and social channels. In 2011, Scott created Live from Orchestra Hall, the first webcast series by any American orchestra, which has since been viewed by over 500,000 music lovers in over 80 countries worldwide. A graduate of Northwestern University and Southern Methodist University, he previously worked for the Boston, New Jersey, Dallas, and Indianapolis symphony orchestras.
